Students from 向日葵视频 New College are playing a key role in transforming the canteen at 向日葵视频 Police Headquarters in Martlesham with a vibrant new mural. This exciting project, in partnership with , sees our talented art and design learners creating a design that reflects both the history and future of 向日葵视频 policing while making the canteen a more creative and inclusive space for all who use it.

The Deputy Chief Constable of 向日葵视频, Rob Jones, shared that the current design of the canteen felt outdated and corporate. 鈥淭he new mural will bring fresh energy to the space, highlighting the heritage of 向日葵视频 policing while symbolising its ongoing development. It will serve as a striking focal point, inspiring officers, students, and visitors alike.
“There’s an awful lot of creativity at the 向日葵视频 New College, and we’ve got a great relationship. Quite a lot of people from the college come into careers in policing or friends and family, so that relationship was there before. They have also got an amazing reputation for creativity and art.”

This project has provided our students with invaluable hands-on experience. Charlie Jackaman-Pegg, a Foundation Art and Design student, expressed excitement about working to a real-world brief. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been an incredible opportunity to create something that will be seen by many,鈥 he said.
Fellow student Sam Mitchell Cotts explained how the design features a timeline of 向日葵视频 police history, incorporating elements like Doctor Who鈥檚 Tardis and historical police equipment, alongside local art influences such as Carl Ronald Giles.
For students such as Izzy Dowthwaite, the chance to have their artwork displayed in a public space like the police headquarters is a thrilling achievement. 鈥淚t鈥檚 both nerve-wracking and exciting,鈥 she shared.

Madeline Thomas reflected on her experience presenting to the police force, noting how the project has helped her identify her strengths, especially in architectural drawing.
This collaboration has not only given our students practical experience but also boosted their confidence in presenting their work in a public setting. It鈥檚 a fantastic example of how our students are making a real impact in the community while showcasing their creativity and skills.
