This course if ideal for students who have completed the college鈥檚 Basic Digital Skills short course and are looking to further develop their skills, or for those looking to build on their foundations in the digital world. The Level 4 units lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to construction and different management skills. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. Students will gain a wide range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of Level 4, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of construction.

Course Assessment

A variety of assessments will be used on the course to enable students to experience and adapt to different assessment styles. The assessment methods used will be appropriate to assess each module鈥檚 intended learning outcomes. This project is a great introduction to willow basketmaking; working step by step, you鈥檒l learn to add stakes, select the right materials, how to weave and shape sides, build the slanted border and secure the handle. This design beautifully displays natural willow colours and textures.

If you have some basketry skills already, you can opt to make your own base and create the larger basket.

All materials and tools are provided. Please bring your own secateurs if you have them

Maths and English GCSE or functional skills lessons form part of this course, along with an emphasis on developing the core qualities to succeed in education, training and employment.

This course would suit learners who have been home schooled, out of education, in a small setting for schooling, or who struggled to attend or engage in school. This option would allow them the time and wrap around support to settle into college life.

• This course is for people who are starting out in the animal care industry.
• You don鈥檛 need any previous experience, just an interest in working with animals.
• You will need to be ready to work outside in all kinds of weather. Animals need care every day 鈥� even when it鈥檚 raining or cold!

What will I learn?

• You will learn how to work safely around animals (Health & Safety)
• You will undertake one other unit that provides you with basic knowledge and hands-on skills in Animal Care.
• Personal Development will also be part of your study programme.

What will I need?

• You will need Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as steel-toe cap boots, a polo shirt and a sweatshirt.
• Outdoor clothing (e.g. waterproof coat and trousers) would be beneficial as you will be working with animals in all weather conditions.

This course covers aspects of women鈥檚 hairdressing. Our students develop skills in principles and practice of hairdressing services, cutting hair using basic techniques, style, set and dress hair, plait and twist hair, colour and lighten hair, styling, and finishing services. To inspire learning and widen the experience to achieve your maximum potential within the industry, we run a commercial salon where you will work on paying clients and have the opportunities to be part of professional training workshops, guest stylists, and industry talks. You will work with a range of clients of different ages, genders, and ethnicities to develop your confidence to work with all clients. To gain this qualification, students will successfully achieve one externally set synoptic examination and one externally set synoptic practical examination.

Practical skills and techniques are developed through the completion of ten required practical activities which are integrated into class teaching time.

The scientific content of topics and practical skills are assessed in two external paper examinations each worth 50% of the overall marks. Examinations are taken at Foundation or Higher tier level. The qualification is suitable for adults 19+ looking for a career change. The course aims to introduce you to the basics of dog grooming including basic restraint, handling techniques, bathing, grooming, nail clipping and cleanliness.

To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units.

The course offers a blend of theory, direct study, and practical workshops to underpin the skills and knowledge required to meet the assessment criteria. Attendance is vital to achieving your course and developing your practical skills. To achieve the L2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants you will be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations, an online assessment and written assignments.

You could be self-employed or work for a business or franchise, and it could be based in a salon or mobile unit. The course offers a blend of theory, direct study, and practical workshops at college to underpin the skills and knowledge required to meet the assessment criteria.

Learners gain hands-on experience across livestock, crops and machinery, building confidence working in real farm environments. The programme prepares students for the demands of the agricultural sector by developing both technical ability and workplace readiness.

This qualification is a one-year full-time programme which will include a broad introduction to livestock production, crop husbandry, machinery use and safe working practices. Learners study a range of modules, including:

Level 2 Technical Certificate in Equine is a qualification for those aged 16-18 who are looking to start a career in the equine industry.

The equine industry is diverse and includes a wide range of businesses and opportunities, for example, riding schools, livery yards, competition yards, breeders, welfare charities and freelance services. Roles within the industry may include riding, but there are also a variety of non-riding roles, for example, retail, manufacturing or event management.

Working with horses can be extremely rewarding, but it does require hard work and, at times, long hours. In order to be successful, being dedicated and enthusiastic is essential.

This qualification will allow you to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge to work with horses, or progress to further learning and training in this area.

Course structure

• Three to four days on site, three days for Equine based lessons and one day for English and/or Maths as required.
• One day per week for a work placement with a local employer.
• One day per week for home study and revision.

This technical qualification has been designed by employers to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant technical skills, which combine both theory and practical aspects.

As part of your Study Programme, you must also complete 150 hours of work experience alongside attendance at college to achieve this qualification. Typical placements may include kennels, catteries, pet shops, farms, farm parks, zoos, animal sanctuaries, animal rescue centres and veterinary practices.

• Introduction to Crop Production

This qualification is a one-year full-time programme, and learners will be assessed through a combination of multiple choice exams, coursework assignments and practical assessments.

To complete the course, learners must also undertake a minimum of 60 work experience hours with an external employer.

This course can be studied as distance learning, with no on-campus classes to attend.

This qualification will suit students aged 19 and over, and who are currently employed as early years Level 3 practitioners at a senior level, working with children from birth to 5 years of age. It would suit learners who are looking to develop leadership and specialist skills for use in their current role, or in preparation to take on a role such as a room senior, deputy or manager.

The course consists of 18 units. Each unit contains both skills and knowledge elements which will be assessed by your tutor/ assessor. Skills criteria will be assessed via observation of your practice for those who do not already hold a full and relevant level 3 qualification) and professional discussions. Knowledge criteria will be assessed via written work (no exams), including assignments, reflective written tasks, evidence of activity planning, and observations. Document evidence such as assessments and tracking within early years, and evidence of leading CPD and colleague training.

This qualification is a good choice for you if you are looking to progress to become a Senior Practitioner within the early year’s workforce. The Senior Practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the early year’s workforce.

On completion of the course, students will be excellently placed to move into managerial roles, or work within the early year sector outside of childcare in roles such as family support practitioner, social work assistant, and children鈥檚 centre coordinator. Students will also be well prepared to enter higher education at the degree level.

The course cost is 拢4670. This can be funded via the advanced learner loan.

Applicants must be 19 years old on or before 31st August of the year prior to starting the course. The course can be commenced at any time of the year.

• This is a full time course that requires on-site attendance 3 days per week, 1 day of work experience and 1 day for self directed study.

Students will study technical units to develop skills and knowledge associated with construction to prepare them for further study in particular construction trades.

The course covers current elements of both theory and industry-related practical tasks that will give the student invaluable insight into working within the woodworking industry. You will learn vital skills using hand tools, power tools and how to use woodworking machinery to produce bespoke items of joinery taught by time-served industry tradespeople.

Learners gain extensive hands-on experience across livestock, crops, machinery and farm business operations, building the confidence and competence needed to work effectively in professional agricultural settings. The programme prepares students for the demands of a rapidly developing industry by strengthening technical expertise, problem-solving ability and workplace readiness.

This qualification is a two-year full-time programme in which learners study a wide range of advanced modules.

There are numerous career options depending on your interests and goals, which range from managing large forests to managing trees for amenities and urban landscapes. This qualification is suitable if you are 16 years old, or over.

You may or may not have any previous knowledge or experience in forestry or arboriculture.

You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working in a tree-work setting or progressing to further learning and training in this area.

During the course, you will gain specialised knowledge and skills that relate to a supporting role within a veterinary practice, including practical animal husbandry and care skills and customer service. As a specialised course, you should finish with the ability to assist qualified veterinary staff as well as provide owners with relevant, accurate advice for the care and management of their animals.

If you have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths, or have not been able to gain a placement required for the Level 3 Diploma, this would be the starting point for those that are committed to a career in veterinary nursing, or animal science.

Progression opportunities

To undertake further study at Level 3, you must have achieved Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths.

This qualification would allow you to gain employment in an assistant role within a veterinary practice.

What will you be doing on the course?

You will practice a wide range of skills on the course including:

• Laying paving and blocks

Students will work on a work placement either in landscaping, estate gardens, nurseries, or retail.

16-18 year olds only

Assessment is through practical synoptic assessment, an exam, and a landscape practical assignment.

This qualification is about the maintenance of a chainsaw and cross-cutting trees at ground level.

Cross-cutting operations will include cross-cutting timber under tension in the form of fallen branches, tops, tree sections, severed uprooted stems, horizontal stems, or any timber in a similar situation. This describes the cross-cutting of trees or timber into either manageable sections or to a given length and diameter specification, either where trees have been felled (鈥渁t stump鈥�), or at a conversion point to where trees or timber have been extracted.

The course content includes:

• Identify the appropriate protective clothing and equipment,
• Work Preparation,
• Servicing and Maintaining the Saw,
• Cross-cutting of timber

You will need to bring: Chainsaw, tools and the relevant PPE. PPE & Equipment list will be sent by email after booking or on request.

Assessment

This course leads to a City & Guilds Level 2 Award 0020-03 via a competency assessment. Competency will be assessed by the NTPC after you have completed the training course, not on the day of the course. Your assessment will be booked through the NPTC to be carried out at a convenient time and location. You will be assessed by using a combination of practical assessment and theory-based questioning. Please submit a clear, passport-style photo to NPTC@ccn.ac.uk in advance of your course for your ID card registration. This course covers how to help a baby or child who:

• is unresponsive and breathing
• is unresponsive and not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)

• has sickness or a fever

This course also covers what to do if someone is having a medical emergency, including:

• meningitis
• diabetic emergency

• swallowed something harmful

This course includes basic adult first aid skills on accident reporting and administering medication for those working in a childcare setting.

Delivered in a classroom setting, this course offers a practical, hands-on approach that delivers the skills and confidence to use first aid skills in a real-life situation.

For added reassurance, each learner is assessed throughout the course using a range of practical demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, quizzes and engaging activities, such as role-play, designed to coach and support them as they develop.

Those delegates who complete the course will be deemed to have reached the required standard and will be awarded an Aid Training certificate valid for three years, after which time you will need to renew your certification.

A career in land-based engineering could be for you if you like to work as part of a team, work in the outdoors, enjoy problem-solving and are interested in developing your analytical and IT skills. This course is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the land-based engineering industry.

All students who have not achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

PA1 Foundation is a pre-requisite for this course. You will also need a reasonable knowledge of maths for the calibration calculations.

The course content includes:

• Putting PA1 information into practice
• Calibration of sprayer
• Spraying speed
• Correct use of concentrated and diluted pesticide
• Correct selection of nozzles and pressure for spraying conditions and types of pesticides used
• Calculation of area to be sprayed
• Wind speeds and other spraying conditions
• Practical spraying
• Practice for PA6 test

You will need to bring: All-weather clothing, steel toe-capped boots and appropriate spraying personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE required: full-face shield, overalls, and gloves (the basic requirement for the course is coveralls type 5/6 (Tyvec), and Nitrile gloves 300mm long. Please bring knapsack sprayer and a jug if you have one. You may wish to bring writing materials to take your own course note on the day and a calculator is essential.

Entry Requirements

PA1 is a pre-requisite for this course.

You must already have the NPTC PA1 Pesticide Spraying Foundation (0216-49) qualification to be able to sit the assessment for the PA6 course.

NB: PA6AW (near or to water) is an additional optional unit for PA6.听 The additional fee for the AW unit when booked with PA6 is 拢80.听 The AW training will be covered at the end of the PA6 course and the AW unit will be covered during the PA6 Assessment.听 Please email Business@suffolk.ac.uk to request the AW unit.

The hydraulic nozzle sprayer will be tractor-mounted (please ask for details of quad bike-mounted sprayer training).

This course will cover:

• Safe driving practice
• Preparation and maintenance of the sprayer
• Fault finding
• Calibration and post-spraying procedures.

You will need to bring: A Calculator and writing materials to take your own course notes on the day.

If available, please bring your PA1 training book/notes with you as well. Please wear comfortable clothing and all-weather outerwear suitable for a yard environment.

Personal Protective Equipment required: Wellington boots. Please bring your own gloves, overalls, full-face shield and respirator if you desire. Don鈥檛 worry if you don鈥檛 have this equipment available; you will be able to borrow this from the tutor on the day of the course.

Entry Requirements: You must have already passed the NPTC PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides Spraying Foundation (0216-49) qualification, and you must be competent in Tractor driving/operation.

Assessment: This course leads to a City & Guilds Level 2 Award NPTC 021650 via a competency assessment carried out by the NPTC. Once you have completed the training course, you will be contacted by the NPTC to arrange a convenient time and location for your assessment (assessment is not carried out on the day of the course). The practical assessment will include observation and oral questioning and will cover jug tests and calibration of the ground crop sprayer. If you are not experienced in using a ground crop sprayer, please use the time between the course training day and the assessment to gain a level of practical experience. Successful candidates will be awarded their certificate directly from the NPTC.

The space is equipped with two large kilns, a spray booth, slab-roller and four electric wheels- providing everything you need to develop your creativity with clay.

T Levels are a new qualification designed to combine the best elements of academic and vocational learning. The T Level in Education and Childcare is a two-year programme designed to support you in becoming a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner at level 3 with the option to go straight into work or to move into higher education. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels but with a specific focus on the industry that you are interested in.

In the first year of your course, you will cover core components that develop your knowledge and understanding of the elements that underpin working in a childcare or education setting with children and young people aged 0-19 years. Course structure

The course is theory-based and requires attendance on site, 1 day per week. Further home study and revision is required to successfully achieve the qualification.

A work placement within a horticultural setting is advised.

This qualification will suit students aged 19 and over, who are currently employed as an Early Years Level 3 practitioner with experience in this role. It would suit learners who are currently working as or hope to move into the role of SENCO in an early years PVI setting.

The course consists of 2 units. The units include topics such as the role of the SENCO, legislation and frameworks which underpin SEN practice, the importance of working with parents and other professionals, the broad types of SEND, models of disability, implementing the graduated approach, how to make use of the local offer, the importance of consistent CPD and training for professional development, supporting your team in matters of SEND, processes of EHCPs, and case studies such as supporting families to overcome barriers, working with children and families with EAL, supporting transitions and supporting 鈥渓ooked after children鈥�.

This qualification is a good choice for you if you are currently working as a SENCO, or looking to move into this role. Learners will attend their workplace, with an individualised employment schedule, completing the workplace induction and learning the tasks and duties required of them. Learners will be able to gain a good understanding of the workplace environment and be given support and opportunities to develop their workplace skills.

The learners will receive Job Coach support tailored to their needs throughout the Internship and will have access to a range of workshops, which are employment-based sessions. They will also have support to record and reflect on their progress in their work placement, working through any hurdles arising.
